Facing Alzheimer’s

Memory Support

Posted: October 3, 2019

About 5.8 million people in the US are living with Alzheimer’s, and that number will continue to grow as members of the baby boomer generation age. That means the need for dementia care from qualified professionals is always increasing, which is why Christian Living Communities is proud to offer an evidence-based memory care program.

But even outside of our community, there have been positive developments for anyone who has been affected by dementia, as Alzheimer’s disease has been getting more attention than usual in the media. For example, a few years ago, Owen Wilson announced that his father has Alzheimer’s disease, stating, “You just have to do your best to deal with it. You’ve got no choice but to accept it. And then, you sort of still look for the things to be grateful for.”

Since then, other celebrities have commented on their experiences with loved ones who have dementia, with a few examples being Seth Rogen, Maria Shriver, and Bryan Cranston. And the need for Alzheimer’s and dementia care has been in the news lately for other reasons, as well. In particular, a study recently linked Alzheimer’s disease with weight during midlife, as it appears that being overweight around the age of 50 can hasten the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Not only do studies like this one keep the topic of dementia care in the news, but they also suggest that there are ways to keep Alzheimer’s disease at bay through diet and exercise.

Christian Living Communities already supports the fight against dementia by ensuring the staff stays educated on proper memory care, as well as by providing several memory support communities throughout the United States. More specifically, our Alzheimer’s and dementia care program makes sure to celebrate the whole person, creating a personalized care plan that takes into consideration each person’s history and potential for growth. When we provide dementia care, we focus on the possibilities, not the deficiencies, making sure to use innovative technology for support where appropriate.

For anyone who needs Alzheimer’s and dementia care, Christian Living Communities is here to help. Please contact us today to learn more about what we offer families that have been affected by dementia!
